Austrian Farm Stay

Our Austrian Farm Stay! A must do if visiting Austria with kids. If you are looking for family accommodation in Austria then this farm stay is for you.

Our Farm stay in Austria definitely received the most attention from our audience out of everywhere we stayed in Europe! I mean, waking up on a farm in Austria was certainly a bucket list moment for us and a memory that will last a lifetime for our kids. We received so many emails and messages on our social media about this property and our Austrian Itinerary so we are here to give you all the details about our travels through Austria. We drove into Austria from Italy see our Our ultimate Road Trip through Italy. Our 2 week Italy Itinerary. For a deeper look into our Austrian travels.

& headed straight for our accommodation in Isegrim, Altenmarkt. We had an apartment looking over the most incredible property with a swimming pool, sauna, pony’s, goats and rabbits. There was a huge grass area with trampolines and a playground and loads of space to kick the soccerball, which my son was thrilled about having just finished our travels through Italy with no space to run! The kids were encouraged to feed the animals and a few days a week the managers of the property also arrange horse rides! The best part was that our apartment window looked straight over this magnificient grass area and we were able to watch the kids play and thoroughly enjoy themselves. One morning we even did an eggs on toast cook up and ate it down on the picnic tables provided, with the most beautiful morning sun on us and views over the Austrian alps. A breakfast we won’t forget!

We stayed here for 4 nights and the surrounding area took us completely by surprise at how much there was to see and do.

We discovered an indoor thermal swimming pool and waterslide park 5 minutes drive up the road called Erlebnis-Therme Amadé

Our kids had never been on a thermal waterslide before so the excitment was real! So real infact, Gilles and i even had to get in on the action. Indoor waterslides with warm water? Yes please! We spent an entire day here, swimming and playing. There was also a sauna, toddler pool, playground, cafe, whirlpool and outdoor heated pool.

We also explored an incredible place nearby called Gamskogel hut and only accessible via the most magical chair lift overlooking the most stunning scenery we had ever seen!

After a 15 minute trip up you are greeted with friendly free roaming cows with bells on, a beautiful cafe with fireplace serving delicious Austrian cuisine, an adventure playground with flying fox, go karts, water table, huge playarea and a view over the Austrian alps! It really doesn’t get any better. We had lunch and hot chocolates here and the kids played on the playground for hours.

A trip to Austria would not be complete without visiting The Sound Of Music Trail in Werfen. This was also close by to our accommodation and highly recommended. You can walk up the interactive trail which takes approx 30 minutes with stories about the movie along the way or simply just drive up, as we did. This location is truly breathtaking and the mountains are incredible. We reenacted the iconic ‘The hills are alive”scene from The Sound Of Music movie and ran up the hill singing and dancing, what a special moment with our kids. This can all be seen on our Austrian YouTube Episode.

Another must see place is Hallstatt. Walking through Hallstatt was like being in a real life fairytale village. A stunning lake centres the quirky town and the scenery was jaw dropping… how do places like this actually exist? The true meaning of beauty! Enjoy the day here browsing the shops and cafe’s and take in all the beauty of the alpine houses. Lake Hallstatt is full of pretty little eboats so we packed a picnic, hired an eboat and enjoyed an hour admiring the stunning landscape from the views on the boat. Yes, the kids can drive it! You can discover some popular tours and day trips around Hallstatt, Austria here

So our Farmstay in Altenmarkt was the perfect location to visit all of these must see places in Austria. We visited Austria in June so the weather was warm and all the ice was melting off the snow capped mountains creating beautiful lakes. After our days sightseeing, the kids were so happy to return to the Farmstay and spend the evenings playing with the animals and running free on the grass. Our apartment also had a kitchen so we were able to cook, which overall saved us a lot of money. There is a variety of shopping centres nearby and also a main trip of restaraunts and cafes. We can’t recommend this place more if traveling to Austria.
